BODY:
I often hear from parents, “My kid is acting up, do they have ADHD?”
Attention-Deficit-Hyperactivity-Disorder, or ADHD, is a pattern of behavior that interferes with normal functioning and prevents areas of the brain from communicating with each other very well. The cause is unknown, but symptoms appear in two area groupings: first, attention, concentration, focus, or organizational struggles, and second, physical activity including restlessness, impulsiveness, interrupting, or impatience.  A person can struggle in one or both of these areas. Symptoms occur before the age of 12, and although the diagnosis is overused, many children and even adults are never diagnosed.  The good news is that ADHD is easily treatable with skills, simple tips, and medications.
