He shall overcome
Revelation 21-22
I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the beginning and the end.
Revelation 22:13
The first two chapters of Genesis and the last two chapters of Revelation contain no reference to evil or to the devil. Satan does not appear at the beginning, and he will not appear at the end of human history. God reigns alone without rival; it is he who brackets human existence with his sovereignty and greatness.
The master Artist designed our world to begin in a garden, and a garden is a place of order and beauty — a place of aesthetic and physical nurture.
He designed the world to find its fulfilment in a city, not one like our cities, but the Holy City in which there will be no suffering, no pain, no sorrow, and no heartache. It will be clean, beautiful, and full of life.
Ultimate reality, the beginning of all things and the end of all things, is not evil; goodness and beauty fill the beginning and the end because of the presence of God.
With all the evil in our world, we are sometimes seduced into thinking that evil is more powerful than God himself. But it is simply not so.
“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, who is leading us to his holy and beautiful city.
