A world beyond my grasp
Acts 2

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Sudden and sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house… All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Acts 2:1-2, 4

The day of Pentecost made clear that there is a reality beyond human reality who is personal and is anxious to be in relationship with human beings.

On that day the sound of a mighty rushing wind suddenly descended on those who were gathered together. But that sound was simply a symbol because the greatest thing that happened was neither the sound of a mighty wind nor the shaking of the room in which they met.

The unbelievable event occurred when the Spirit came from beyond time and space and filled their hearts with his empowering presence. They went out of that room transformed and transforming. It was here that the church began.

The church is the body of people who know Someone who exists beyond themselves, who know that Person to be the Holy Spirit. It is a wonderful thing to understand that a world exists beyond my grasp even though cannot see, touch, measure, or control it. In fact, I was made for it to control me.

The marvellous reality is that the Ruler of that other world cares more about you and about me than he does about himself, and if we open Ourselves to his presence, he can transform our routine daily existence so that it becomes a window looking into heaven.
