Love Wholeheartedly
When you embrace a dear one you do not stop to meditate how and why you love—you just love wholeheartedly. It is the same when spiritually we grasp Jesus the Christ to our hearts. If we pay heed to the depth and quality of our love, it means that we are preoccupied with our own reactions rather than giving ourselves unreservedly to Jesus–holding nothing back. Think the Prayer as you breathe and out; calm both mind and body, using as rhythm the heartbeat. Do not search for words, but go on repeating the Prayer, or Jesus’ name alone, in love and adoration. That is ALL! Strange-in this little there is more than all.

Are you more of a Martha or a Mary? Do you recall the scene in Luke’s Gospel? As Jesus visited the home of these sisters, Martha was very busy tending to their guests while Mary sat quiet and still at Jesus’ feet enjoying his visit. Martha became discouraged—she was working while her sister was shucking responsibility. Jesus gently corrected Martha; in this setting, resting in Jesus presence was more important than the busyness of hospitality. That’s saying something profound, by the way, because in Jewish culture, very little was more important than hospitality. Whatever distracts you, I’m sure, is important. But one thing matters more. One thing matters most. As the devotion reads, in little, there is more. Much more! –DH
