Community & Contemplation
Clearly, in the serious contemplation of our place in the human community lies the quality of our contemplation. To be a real contemplative we must every day take others into the narrow little confines of our lives and listen to their call to us to be about something greater than ourselves.

Illuminated Life
This devotional thought from Sister Joan Chittister makes a marvelous point: The contemplative life is not simply part of the spiritual life or contemplation for its own sake. It is not escapism. Rather, contemplation is an immersion in the God who created the world we live in and all who live in it. The contemplative life requires community; the voices of others who are following after Christ; gathering wisdom from observation and sharing. A great question to ask is how our community moves us. Are we moving towards or away from holiness? Is our appetite for truth and righteousness growing? Are we maturing in our ability to recognize, see, hear, and sense God in our surroundings? —DH
