Prayer: A Way of Being
Prayer is not primarily saying words or thinking thoughts. It is, rather, a stance. It’s a way of living in the Presence. It is, further, a way of living in awareness of the Presence, even enjoying the Presence. The full contemplative is not just aware of the Presence, but trusts, allows, and delights in it.
—Richard Rohr,
Everything Belongs
Prayer is more than words spoken or thoughts pondered; it is a way of being. To pray is to step into an awareness of God’s presence, not just in moments of formal devotion but in the ordinary rhythms of life. It is learning to dwell in the reality that God is always near, always inviting us into communion. When we begin to see prayer as a stance rather than an activity, it transforms our daily existence—infusing even the simplest tasks with sacred significance. True contemplation moves beyond mere awareness into trust, surrender, and delight. It is not enough to acknowledge God’s presence; we are called to rest in it, to allow it to shape our hearts and guide our steps. The joy of deep prayer is not striving, but abiding. In this space of quiet confidence, we come to know that we are fully known and fully loved. And in that knowing, we find peace. Let us rest in His presence today and every day! —DH
