God is the Source of Light

The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1).

Scripture says that God is the Source of all light. He is “my light and my salvation.” Fire is a symbol of God, and fire produces light. In the wilderness God led his people with a cloud by day and with fire by night. The fire was given so they could see their way. When Moses came down from the mountain after his encounter with Yahweh, his face was shining so brightly that he had to cover it with a veil. When one is in the presence of God, one is in the Source of light.

I remember one hard-nosed businessman who told me, “I came to a point of total surrender where I died to myself and became alive to God. I went into my study and shut the door and locked it. I fell face down in the dark, and all of a sudden I could have sworn that there was a light in that room.”

God’s presence brings illumination and brilliance. He is the Source of light, and when we turn away from the Source of light, we should not be shocked if shadows begin to fall across our pathway. If we continue to walk in the shadow, we will eventually find ourselves in the dark. Jesus described hell as “outer darkness”—a deliberate walking away from the light.

Are there shadows across your path? If so, do whatever it takes to come into the light of God’s presence.

This Day with the Master

God doesn’t just give light—He is light. His presence brings clarity, warmth, and brilliance to our lives. When we walk closely with Him, our path is lit, and we see things as they truly are. But when we drift from His presence, it’s no surprise when confusion, fear, or darkness begin to settle in. Just as turning from the sun casts a shadow, turning from God dims our spiritual vision. Are you finding yourself in the shadows today? Be encouraged! The Light never moves—only we do. God remains the constant Source, always ready to shine again on our path when we turn back to Him. So when shadows creep in, let them be a gentle reminder: it’s time to turn our face again toward the Light, the Lord who brightens every corner of our soul. Like the prodigal, turn your eyes towards your Father’s embrace! —DH
