Empty to Be Filled
This is the true self-denial to which our Savior calls us, the acknowledgment that self has nothing good in it, except as an empty vessel which God must fill, and that its claim to be or do anything may not for a moment be allowed. It is in this, above and before everything, in which the conformity to Jesus consists, the being and doing nothing of ourselves, that God may be all.
—Andrew Murray

True self-denial isn’t about rejecting joy or living without purpose—it’s about recognizing that, apart from God, we have nothing good to offer on our own. We are like empty vessels, made to be filled with His life, His wisdom, and His power. The moment we claim the credit or try to act independently of Him, we miss the very heart of what it means to follow Jesus.
Conformity to Christ means letting go of self-reliance so that God can be everything in us. As we surrender our need to be or do anything apart from Him, we make room for His Spirit to fill us completely—and in that filling, His glory shines through our lives. —DH
